Summer Bat Surveys

The survey season has started for the National Bat Monitoring Programme, which is run by the Bat Conservation Trust.  In June, we start by counting bats out of their roosts.  In July, we walk transects listening for pipistrelles, serotines and noctule bats.  August is the time for our waterways surveys, assessing the populations of Daubenton’s bats.  All these surveys will be taking place in various locations throughout Hampshire.  If new members of the Hampshire Bat Group would like to get involved, one option is to join the existing surveyors to find out what happens and gain valuable experience in bat detecting.  Once you have gained some experience, there are a number of vacant survey sites around the county.  For more information, write to me at: recordshantsbats (at)
